COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM 2026

GRANT APPLICATION GUIDELINES

INTRODUCTION

In 2025, Freemasons Tasmania offered its first Community Grants Program. The success of this program has encouraged Freemasons Tasmania to offer a further 17 grants for 2026.

Benevolence has always been the Corner Stone of the society, who first established the Masonic Benevolent
Foundation in 1843, which they have steadily grown into one of Tasmania’s largest benevolent organisations.

In furthering this mission, Freemasons will disburse up to a maximum of $82,000.00 this year in individual grants of no more than $10,000.00 each.

Recipient organisations will not be required to provide matching funding, allowing many groups who may otherwise have been precluded the opportunity to apply.

GRANT APPLICATION CRITERIA

  • To provide or deliver a community service or project within the State of Tasmania
  • To demonstrate the community need for the proposed service or project
  • To demonstrate the positive impact the service or project will make within the community
  • To demonstrate the proposed project or service does not conflict with the wants of the community, including the Local Government Authority/Council that they are proposed for
  • To demonstrate the sustainability of any project or service, if projected for subsequent years
  • To demonstrate the total level of financial support for the project or service from all sources
  • The project or service must commence by no later than 30th September2026
  • Co-funding not required
  • Successful recipients will be required to make themselves available for a photo/media opportunity announcing the grant, and post this on their own social media channels (eg Facebook, Instagram etc).

GRANT APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY

Recipient Requirements:
  • To be a Tasmanian registered charity or Incorporated Auspice society or not-for-profit organisation
  • To be registered with a Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • Hold and maintain a certified Public Liability Insurance of $20M or above

Recipient Supporting Documentation Requirements:

  • To provide a project or service plan of action indicating milestones and timeframes
  • To provide written permission/permit for any event that may be part of an application
  • To provide full details of registered charity or Incorporated Auspice society or not-for-profit organisation
  • To provide full details of Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • To provide full details of certified Public Liability Insurance of S20M or above

Recipient Disqualifications

  • No application for a project or service at variance with the ethics and values of Freemasons Tasmania will be considered
  • No application for a project that has commenced or been completed will be considered
  • No application for a project or service that replicates an existing project or service will be considered
  • No application by a business will be considered
  • No application by a Local Government Authority/Council will be considered
  • No application by a Government Department will be considered
  • No application by an individual will be considered
  • No application by a political group or organisation will be considered
  • No application for public relations campaigns or fund raising will be considered

GRANT APPLICATION PROCESSING

Grant applications will only be accepted from 9am Friday 1st May till 5pm Wednesday 30th June 2026

Grant applications MUST be lodged via email
Grant applications will be checked against the Eligibility/Disqualification criteria before being progressed
Grant applications will be considered by the Board of Benevolence of Freemason Tasmania
Grant applications will be assessed on their ability to meet the expected criteria and any other factors the Board of Benevolence deems appropriate
The Board of Benevolence reserves the right to award Grants of a lesser value than requested
The decision of the Board of Benevolence will be final and NOT appealable
Successful applicants MUST commence projects or services by am Tuesday 30th September 2026, as no funding will be granted retrospectively
Successful applicants are required to provide a report on any outcome within one calendar month from the completion of the project or service and how Freemasons Tasmania’s support was recognised
Freemasons Tasmania will use its best endeavours to advise all applicants on the decision of the Board of Benevolence
